Amaretto Sour Recipe/Review

Overall Score: 6.5. The Amaretto Sour is an enjoyable drink and welcomed by a broad audience. The sweetness of the amaretto is reduced by the use of cask strength bourbon and freshly squeezed lemon.

  • 1.5 ounces of Amaretto – we recommend Disaronno
  • 1.0 ounces of Cask Strength Bourbon – we recommend Maker’s Mark Cask Strength
  • 1.0 ounces of lemon (1 fresh, squeezed lemon)
  • 1 egg white
  • 0.4 ounces of simple syrup – we recommend Barsmith

  • Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and do not add ice
  • Dry shake all ingredients (necessary because of the egg white)
  • Add ice
  • Shake well with ice
  • Garnish with a maraschino cherry and lemon twist

Overall Score: 6.5

The amaretto sour is a solid cocktail that whiskey drinkers and non-whiskey drinkers will enjoy. The use of an egg white is necessary in this recipe as it moves it from average to great. The combination of bourbon, lemon, and egg white provides an exceptional palate with bold flavors and a pleasant, creamy texture. The sour flavors limit me to one drink, two max. My wife and I have different palates, but we both consider this an enjoyable cocktail. The use of egg whites and bourbon make this a nice drink when you’re hosting friends or family. The only caution I offer is be careful with the egg. The first mix I dropped the yolk into the shaker like a Degenerate piece of shit and had to restart. Better luck to you and cheers Degenerates!
