Review
Nose: the nose is moderate with a great aroma. Few whiskeys stand out in smell, but this is one we enjoy for a hint of boldness.
Palate: Henry McKenna 10 is a beautiful tasting whiskey and enjoyed neat. It has moderate heat with complex flavors and multiple tasting notes. This is a special taste for a bourbon at a reasonable price; it’s obvious why this one is tough find and a common favorite. The 100 proof and 10 year aging declarations are backed by the bottled-in-bond title (click for more info on BIB). If you find a bottle, make an immediate purchase and add this to the collection. The bottle captures many unique aspects making it special – single barrel, 10 year aging, 100 proof, and bottled-in-bond.
Finish: the finish is moderate and delicious with diverse flavors. You can find better tasting and cheaper bourbons, but this whiskey seems to capture a perfect balance and is approach by all whiskey drinkers.
Rating
Overall Score: 9.0 (score reflects taste and price)
Henry McKenna is difficult to find and it’s unfortunate. This is a well-balanced whiskey with moderate heat and a great flavor profile. It is one of the best whiskeys on the market considering its price and taste; not to mention the uniqueness of aging, proof, single barrel processing and bottled-in-bond (talk about checking a lot of boxes for a collection). This whiskey is enjoyed neat or in any preferred form.
Degenerate Discussion
I bring this bottle out on rare occasion and mostly for myself based on the difficulty finding it; I’m as selfish as an eight-year old girl that’s a single child. Now that we’re on the topic, I would get after a tea party served with Henry McKenna, nachos, and wings. In some respects, I think our younger-selves have it all figured out and we only complicate things with age (i.e. we need more drinking parties). The few times I’ve grabbed this bottle, it has always been during uneventful circumstances. I like to drink great tasting bottles, like Henry McKenna, in the simple moments of life: while I’m getting trashed playing video games or hanging with the wife. Purchase a bottle of Henry McKenna and find your simple moments; cheers Degenerates.
