Royal Fresh Imperial IPA Deschutes Brewing Review

Overall Score: 6.5 Royal Fresh is a balanced, but not exceptional beer. It’s an imperial IPA with high juice and tropical flavors mixed with moderate hops. It’s tasty and smooth, but could be a little bolder.

Brewery Insights: Royal Fresh provides a taste of imperial hops with big, juicy, tropical flavors and a smooth finish. Cascade, Citra, Centennial, Amarillo, Mosaic, and Cashmere hops are used.

Overall Score: 6.5

Royal Fresh has a balanced appearance between the darker tint of an imperial IPA and lighter colors from juicier hops (Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo). The palate follows the look as this is a nicely balanced beer that will please hop enthusiasts and those seeking juicy, citrus flavors. The hops are moderate and may receive criticism from those with a bolder palate. This is an easy-drinking, tasty IPA that’s perfect for a night when you’re having a few and desire a variety of styles. The juicy, tropical flavors are moderate to high, but balanced by the hops, ABV, and IBU.

Royal Fresh reminds me of getting trashed on the east coast and heading to Royal Farms after a night of heavy drinking. My favorite trip was with an Uber driver that gave us beers when we entered his luxury van at 4AM. He quickly took us to grab some amazing fried chicken and potato wedges with cheese, while offering his blunt like a gentleman. Cheers to all Degenerates, but especially that guy!
