Brewery Insights: Texas Mud Pie is a stout’s take on the popular pie that’s created a large following. This beer offers chocolate, marshmallow, and nutty pecan flavors with a decadent, rich finish.
Review
Overall Score: 6.9
Texas Mud Pie is a surprisingly subtle stout that effectively balances sweetness with roasted barley. Chocolate is the dominant flavor and marshmallow tasting notes bring it to a creamy, smooth finish. The mouth feel is light for a stout, which makes this approachable to most consumers. It’s an easy drinking stout that allows you to comfortably drink the entire pint. There is no pecan whatsoever and the palate isn’t complex, which is disappointing considering the intended mud pie outcome. It’s a pretty good stout.
Degenerate Discussion
Texas Mud Pie is closer to eating your wife’s pie than a sweet pie. The chocolate and marshmallow flavors are subtle and the claim that pecans are in this beers, is like oil companies claiming they’re good for the environment. Fortunately, the experience is decent overall and you’re not mad about the purchase. It’s not like you’re considering storming the capitol after drinking this, unless you think QAnon is a legitimate news source. Even Degenerates aren’t that dumb, and for that, we say cheers!
