Brewery Insights: The Calling is bursting with tropical, pine, and hop flavors with a semi sweet malt. It uses a blend of hops, but primarily Equinox, Mosaic, Amarillo and Galaxy
Review
Overall Score: 7.0
The Calling is a light yellow DIPA, which will causes early concerns. Fortunately, the palate exceeds the appearance as you’re met with moderate bitters and decent hops. The flavors are bolder than you expect and in alignment with the stats (ABV, IBU, and DIPA). The citrus notes are elevated, which confirms Mosaic is the primary hop. It’s rare I use this term, but it has an earthiness to it, which captures the pine tasting notes. It’s a balanced beer and nice offering from Boulevard, but it’s not exceptional or unique.
Degenerate Discussion
The Calling will have you calling your significant other to the bedroom after downing a few of these. This is an easy-drinking IPA with a dry finish, good flavors and moderate hops. The 8.5% ABV could sneak up on you and put you in the mood before you know it…or you could smash a six pack and drink a whiskey and forget they exist. This is my version of ‘Russian Roulette’ and one of my favorite drinking games. Either way, my wife and I both win, since it will end in a great night – spending time together or not having to deal each others. Cheers Degenerates!
